Transitioning to the NXT Hg5® Amalgam Separator

For over 25 years, Solmetex has been an innovator in waste solutions, specifically amalgam separators, with a primary focus on ensuring dental practices remain compliant with the ever-changing regulatory environment. The acquisition of the Syclone Amalgam Separation System will allow Solmetex to continue its commitment to deliver best-in-class, environmentally responsible dental waste solutions and programs to its physician partners and the communities they serve. As we transition Syclone users to the NXT Hg5 Amalgam Separation System, we hope these Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) will address many of your concerns.

Transitioning

Will Solmetex be discontinuing the Crosstex Syclone system?
A: Yes. Effective immediately Solmetex is discontinuing the Crosstex Syclone Amalgam Separation System and Syclone Collection Containers.

How do I order the NXT Hg5 Amalgam Separator System?
A: Please call 877-207-1551 to speak with a Solmetex Sales Professional.

What is included with my new NXT Hg5 Amalgam Separator System?
A: The Solmetex NXT Hg5 Amalgam Separator System includes one (1) NXT Hg5 Collection Container and all the materials to recycle your current Syclone System.

How much time do I have to changeover from the Syclone to the NXT Hg5?
A: Solmetex has discontinued the Syclone Amalgam Separation System and associated collection containers. Please call 877-207-1551 to speak with a Solmetex Sales Professional.

My Syclone works fine, I don’t want to replace it?
A: Solmetex has discontinued the Crosstex Syclone Amalgam Separator System and Syclone Collection Containers. Hu-Friedy and Crosstex proactively decided there was a need to transition all current and future Syclone customers to a new Amalgam Separator system, and reached out to Solmetex to meet this need, ensuring that all customers have the NXT Hg5, an amalgam separator that they consider to be, the best in the product category and service.

My Syclone System is working fine, and I have an extra collection container. What if I don’t want to switch?

Will the NXT Hg5 work with my current vacuum?
A: Yes, the NXT Hg5 Amalgam Separator System is compatible with both wet and dry vacuums.

I have two Syclone systems running in tandem, can I get the Solmetex NXT Hg5 High Volume Amalgam Separator System?
A: Solmetex recommends that you replace your Syclone Systems as currently installed with the NXT Hg5 Amalgam Separator System.

Will the NXT Hg5 system fit where my Syclone currently is?
A: All situations are unique, but the NXT Hg5 and Syclone Systems have very similar footprints and many former Syclone users have replaced their systems with the NXT Hg5 with little to no space issues.

Does my dealer sell the Solmetex NXT Hg5 Amalgam Separator System?
A: The Solmetex NXT Hg5 System is sold by most dealers throughout the country. Collection containers and associated products (PowerScrub Vacuum Line Cleaner, amalgam buckets, etc.) can also be purchased at https://solmetex.com/ or by calling Solmetex at 877-207-1551.

Installation

Who will install my new NXT Hg5 system?
A: You can coordinate installation through a local installer, or your dealer service tech.

My tech said they won’t install your system.
A: Solmetex will assist you in finding an installer in your local area.

How does the plumbing differ? Do I need anything additional?
A: The installation for the Solmetex NXT Hg5 System is very similar to the Syclone installation.

Collection Containers

My Syclone is working fine, and I just purchased a new collection container for my Syclone, can I wait until I use it before having it replaced?
A: Although Solmetex and Crosstex are both recommending that customers transition to the NXT Hg5 right away, you may choose to use your remaining Syclone Collection Containers.

    • Your history of collection container recycling will not be recorded in the online Solmetex Compliance Center, which may have an impact on your practice with the regulation going into effect.
    • Customer and technical support for the Syclone collection container will not be available.
    • Once the current inventory of Syclone collection containers is depleted, you will no longer be able to order additional Syclone Collection Containers for your system.

What should I do with my empty Syclone Collection Containers?
A: Crosstex will issue a credit, return the inventory to Solmetex.

I’m down to my last Syclone Collection Container and it is full. Can I order a replacement Syclone container while I’m waiting for the NXT Hg5 to be installed?
A: The Syclone Amalgam Separation System and Collection Containers are now discontinued. You can continue to order Syclone Collection Containers until they are depleted from our inventory.

How often do I have to change an NXT Hg5 Collection Container?
A: To maintain compliance, the NXT Hg5 Collection Container must be changed when the solids have reached the “full line” or every 12 months, whichever occurs first.

How do I recycle my Syclone System once the NXT Hg5 is installed?
A: You can mail your Syclone System and used Syclone Collection Container to the Solmetex EPA approved recycling facility. Please refer to the Syclone Air/Water Shipping Instructions and the Syclone Canister Packing & Shipping instructions or please call Solmetex Customer Care at 800-216-5505 for assistance.

Compliance

Is the NXT Hg5 Amalgam Separator ISO certified?
A: Yes, the NXT Hg5 is ISO 11143:2008 certified and meets or exceeds all requirements of the federal regulation for handling of amalgam waste, effective July 14, 2020.

How does your Compliance Certification work?
A: Solmetex has developed a robust Compliance Center that can be found on our website. Please contact a Customer Service Representative at 800.216.5505 should you have additional questions.

I have been using the Syclone for years and have been changing out the collection container every few months. Will my Syclone Certificates of Recycling transfer over to the Solmetex Compliance Center?
A: Once you have transitioned to the Solmetex NXT Hg5 Amalgam Separation System, Solmetex will manage all compliance documentation, which can be accessed 24/7 in the Solmetex Compliance Center.

Will I have access to the Crosstex Compliance Certificates after I switch over to the NXT Hg5?
A: It is recommended that you save your current Syclone Recycling Certificates for your records. Please contact a Solmetex Customer Service Representative at 800-216-5505.

Will I fail Compliance Inspection with my current Syclone system?
A: If the Syclone System is functioning properly, you should not fail a compliance inspection.
