Amalgam Separation Articles on Legislation & Regulations

Solmetex not only impresses its customers with its Hg5 Amalgam Separator series, it continues to bring home awards for it. The product just won its 18th Townie Choice award from Dental Town Magazine. The award series recognizes peer-recommended products and services in dentistry.

In last year’s Townie Choice writeup for the Hg5 series, Dental Town called the amalgam separator “easy to use, virtually maintenance-free and clear by design for easy visual inspection. It is affordable, cost-efficient and environmentally friendly with 100 percent recyclable packaging.”

The Hg5 amalgam separator, which comes in various sizes to meet both small and large practice needs, removes amalgam from your wastewater and stores it in a container that can be sent back to the company to be recycled. The Environmental Protection Agency requires amalgam separators in most new dental practices, and requires them to be installed in most existing practices by July 14, 2020.

Dental Product Shopper evaluators also liked the Hg5 series. Last year, the amalgam separator was named a Recommended Product, and secured a score of a 4.2. In the evaluation, Dr. Joshua Haremza said, “This should be the amalgam separator of choice for any dental office.”

The product won a Preferred Product Award from Dental Advisor in 2016. Evaluators gave it a 96 percent clinical rating. According to Dental Advisor’s comments on the series, 100 percent of evaluators would switch from another amalgam separator system to the Hg5 Amalgam Separator and also would recommend the product to a colleague.

These independent reviews of the product can help clinicians have confidence that they’re making a smart choice for their amalgam separation needs. With the EPA’s deadline looming, now is the time to ensure your practice is in compliance.
