The challenge: phosphate removal

A primary plant nutrient, phosphates are an important component of fertilizers. Phosphates are also used in the manufacturing of detergents and water softeners. Leaching of phosphates, however, is a proven cause of surface water pollution.

Who needs an aswer - and why?
Municipalities and engineering consulting firms, the farming community and household product industries require a cost-effective, targeted solution for phosphate removal. The reason? Phosphate pollution in water causes oxygen deficit and eutrophication. Eutrophication is defined as the process by which a body of water becomes rich in dissolved nutrients, encouraging the growth and decomposition of oxygen-depleting plants such as algal bloom, and resulting in harm to other organisms. Eutrophication was recognized as a pollution problem in North American lakes and reservoirs in the middle of the twentieth century. Recent surveys have shown that in North America, 48% of lakes are eutrophic.

Who has the solution?

In response to the phosphate pollution challenge, SolmeteX has developed PhosXnp, a targeted nanotechnology-based process that binds phosphate in the water, allowing its removal and facilitating its eventual recycling.

What's different about PhosXnp

Conventional phosphate treatment processes include biological and chemical processes. In general, their drawbacks are poor selectivity, low capacity at neutral pH, and very high regeneration cost. In contrast, PhosXnp provides a reliable, economical and extremely efficient answer to the phosphate removal challenge.

Besides its cost-effectiveness, high selectivity and proven reliability, PhosXnp also offers the following benefits:

PhosXnp also adsorbs arsenic.

PhosXnp treats to very low discharge levels.

It requires a minimal capital expense and very low operational costs.

The treatment material is non-toxic and it's fully contained.

Increasing sulfate concentration in the water does not affect PhosXnp uptake capacity
